Dashboard Tour

After you log in you land on the Dashboard. It has three main parts.

This is where you’ll spend most of your time. The items you see depend on your user role and the plugins on your site, but the common ones are:

Menu item What it’s for
Dashboard The home screen, with updates and at-a-glance info
Posts Blog posts or news articles → Posts
Media Images, PDFs and other files → Media Library
Pages Your main website pages → Pages
Comments Approve or remove comments (if enabled)
Appearance Theme, Menus, widgets → Menus
Plugins Add-on features → Plugins and Updates
Users People who can log in → Users and Roles
Settings Site-wide settings. Change these only if you know what they do

The dark bar across the top lets you:

  • Click your site name to view the live website.
  • Click + New to quickly add a post, page, or media file.
  • Hover over your name to edit your profile or log out.

While you’re viewing your live site and logged in, the same toolbar shows an Edit Page link, a quick way to jump straight into editing what you’re looking at.

The big area in the middle changes depending on what you clicked in the left-hand menu. On the Dashboard home screen it shows widgets like At a Glance and Activity.
